Both are researchers at the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biomac.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">BIOMAC lab group<\/a>\u00a0that is part of the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ibed.uva.nl\/content\/research-departments\/theoretical-and-computational-ecology\/theoretical-and-computational-ecology.html\" target=\"_blank\">Department Theoretical and Computational Ecology (TCE)<\/a>\u00a0within\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/ibed.uva.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\">the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8222;Protected areas are the last refuges for wild biodiversity yet are increasingly exposed to human pressure. In this study we mapped where human pressures are impacting species in protected areas across Europe and answer key questions for conservation on the continent, including if species in Natura 2000 areas or species that receive special policy attention under the EU species and habitats directives are less impacted.
